Learn where to stand.

Football position puzzles for players aged 8 to 10. Pick your position, read the pitch and tap the spot where you'd go. Then watch what happens.

A short animation: you start too far up the pitch, move inside the circle where the pass can reach you, the ball comes to you and you get a tick. Spot on! Too far up! Spot on!

How it works

Every question is a real match moment on a 7-a-side pitch. Children get better by doing it, a minute at a time.

  1. Pick your position

Keeper, defender, winger, centre mid or striker. Start with the one you play, then try them all.

  2. Read the pitch

Where's the ball? Who's free? The circle shows how far the pass can go.

  3. Tap your spot

Drag yourself to where you'd stand, then press Check. Passing questions ask who you'd pass to.

  4. See what happens

Right, and the pass comes to you. Not quite, and you see why, with a tip to try again.

Every position on a 7-a-side team

Each position is a short training path in stages: when we have the ball, when they have it, and set pieces like corners, goal kicks and kick-ins. Finish a position to win its trophy, then play a Quick Match of eight situations.

For parents and coaches

Plenty of children can kick a ball but don't know where to be when they haven't got it. Spotabout practises the habits coaches shout from the touchline, one situation at a time.

Built on the FA's 7-a-side pitch sizes and the way under-9s and under-10s actually play.

Each question takes about a minute. A training stage takes around ten.

Questions can be read out loud for younger or less confident readers.

Safe by design

Made for children, so it collects nothing about them.
